Lay-by by bridge over river or car park a little further uphill
From the lay-by follow the path uphill through the wood and after 50 mtrs, take the steep steps on right to the gate (questionable as to whether the steps are an asset or hindrance!). If you’ve parked in the car park, walk downhill to “T” junction, cross the road and the path is directly beside the lay-by.
Through gate then trend slightly leftwards to gate at top left corner of field.
Through gate and continue in same direction gaining height gradually, through gap in wall and on to reach the metal farm gate with wooden pedestrian gate on its right.
Through gate and follow farm track directly ahead to road.
At road turn right into Priestcliffe and after 20 mtrs turn right again.
Follow road gently uphill and at cross roads continue straight over to reach A6.
Cross A6 and follow the farm track uphill immediately left of Waterloo Inn.
Continue up farm track to very top where paths go off left and right (the path left is where route 10 in the central area goes). You need to turn right here over stile.
Continue on this path with wall on your right crossing 4 stone stiles.
After 4th stile turn right on road and after a short distance continue straight on onto farm track signposted “Access to Fivewells Chambered Tomb” (don’t turn right towards the farm).
Follow track downhill and at landfill site, turn right onto access road.
As road turns sharp left downhill, continue straight on onto track (“Restricted Byway”).
Follow to A6.
Cross A6 and take path just right of small copse.
Follow path downhill with wall on your left through 3 fields.
As you go under the overhead cables, head right towards the gate in the wall.
Turn left onto road and at cross roads, straight over and uphill for short distance.
Where road bears left, take road on right marked “Farming Life Centre”.
Follow this and just before the farm buildings turn right.
Take the track right of the entrance to the courtyard of the Farming Life Centre.
Follow the track downhill following the waymarkers.
Track bears right into field and after 10 mtrs, the path turns left downhill.
Keep wall on your left until it bears off leftwards at which point head straight on aiming for gate in far wall.
Continue straight on through gate and follow the waymarkers downhill.
At junction of paths turn left signposted “Chee Dale and Wormhill”.
Follow to river bridge.
Over bridge and turn right. Follow river back to road bridge and either turn right if you’ve parked in lay-by or left uphill to reach the car park.
