Miller's Dale car park
SK138732
NOTE: Monk's Dale is a Nature Reserve and the walking, especially at the northern end can be very challenging. This walk won't suit everyone but if you don't mind some mud, battling through fallen trees at times, and uneven ground, it's a walk worth doing.
From the car park entrance, turn left up the road to the left bend and Glebe Farm. Take the path on the right at this point by the “Miller's Dale” sign.
Follow path downhill through a gate and down to the gate by large stone wall. Turn left here towards Monk's Dale.
Follow the valley floor upstream (prone to being muddy).
There's a point where the path forks but they meet again after a short distance (the upper path might be slightly better after wet weather).
On reaching the road, straight over into Peter Dale, again following the valley floor to the next road.
Left onto the road, pass the remains of a building on your left and take the path on the left a short distance after this.
Follow the wide track uphill, skirt round the deep depression and on to a style right of a gate.
Up fields with wall on your left initially, over a stile when the wall will now be on your right.
The stile at the top of this field is 20 mtrs left of the gate by a telegraph pole.
Over stile and bear leftwards to stile by water trough.
Over stile and continue with wall on your left crossing 2 further stiles then take metal gate on left and immediately right to another stile.
Continue uphill (wall on your right now) to road.
Turn right onto road and follow to a “T” junction.
Left at the “T” junction (signposted Wormhill and Miller's Dale), through the village of Wormhill.
Pass the Brindley Memorial and continue downhill.
Hassop Farm will be on your right as road bends left. Don't take the footpath next to the farm but continue on the road for short distance and take the wide track bearing off right (or continue on road for another 100 mtrs and take the path on the right signposted Chee Dale and Blackwell - both arrive at the same point).
Downhill through 2 gates then fork left and continue down to river.
Turn left before the bridge signposted Miller's Dale and follow the river downstream to just before the road where there's a stile on your left.
Over stile and turn left then follow steps back up to car park.
